Sequoia National Park

 Friday, June 18

We decided to try to beat the heat, rolling out of Bakersfield around 7:30 a.m. after our breakfast of cereal and granola bars. The ever changing scenery never ceases to amaze me, and our drive up the steep, winding road to Sequoia National Park was no exception. Why did God choose so many different landscapes? Why huge trees? Why feathery, green ferns? I can almost imagine the gleam in His eye, and him thinking, "Won't they be amazed?!"

The grandeur of the Sequoias made me stop and think again how amazing God is.

Pictures don't really do justice, but I'm going to leave you with a bunch of them anyway.

Heading into the park

Scenery along the way

We hiked the trail to the General Sherman

Such beautiful scenery!

There he is, the largest tree in the world!

We didn't even make it half way around!

Sat on a few of these along the way

After that hike, we enjoyed a picnic lunch amongst numerous signs warning of active bears and never leaving your food out of arm's reach.

Then we headed off to find the trail for Tharp's Log.

It was a beautiful day -- not too hot, for a change. The youngest member of the family was happy to hear this was our least hike for the day but had to agree with the rest of us, that this day would be a favorite.

  1. So much fun to these places through someone else’s eyes! We went to all these places on our honeymoon 8 years ago in November so it wasn’t as hot. In Bakersfield we know a couple that has an orange grove & they took us to see an orange packing facility. Excited to see where you are going next! If it’s Utah don’t miss Zion National Park! Gorgeous

    1. I loved driving through all the orange groves. Seeing a packing facility would have been fascinating!

Two words about comments:
#1. If you leave a comment and it seems to disappear, that's because all comments go straight to my email and I publish them later.
#2. I know putting a comment out there for the world to see is scary but just know this -- if you leave a comment, you make my day!
